Massive Open Online Course Policy
The university may allow current students to transfer up to 9 credits from a university approved Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). Transfer credit stemming from the completion of a MOOC, such as the American Council on Education (ACE), cannot double count as credit earned from taking William Woods University coursework if the certification, or related activities leading to MOOC certification, is integrated at any point within the course. If the recommended transfer credit from a MOOC exceeds the university course credit where MOOC content is integrated, transfer credit will only be granted for the difference between the recommended MOOC credit and William Woods University credit hours assigned to the course(s).
Completion of a MOOC certification or course may be considered for prior learning credit; however, this would only apply to university courses whereby the course objectives are aligned to MOOC content. Each dean holds final decision-making authority on all credit transfer matters and assessment of prior learning matters concerning MOOC certifications. Students who wish for their MOOC content to be considered for transfer or prior learning credit must initiate correspondence with the appropriate university dean(s) for approval. Approval must be received from the dean of the school or college whereby transfer or prior learning credit is received and the dean for which the student’s program is housed.
