EDU 663 Advanced Online and Blended Teaching

The online classroom is a potentially powerful teaching and learning arena in which new practices and new relationships can make significant contributions to learning. Educators must be trained not only to use technology but also to shift the ways in which they organize and deliver material. Making this shift can increase the potential for learners to take charge of their own learning process and facilitate the development of a sense of community among them.  In this course, students will learn how to personalize education for all students by combining the best of traditional learning with the power of online learning. Students will research and evaluate the various blended and online learning models and learn how each model changes instructional methodologies and pedagogy from a traditional teacher-led classroom to an innovative teacher facilitated, student-centered learning environment. The following concepts will all be explored in detail throughout the course:  learner-centered education, collaborative and interactive learning, metacognitive awareness, increased flexibility, immediate feedback, and multimodal content.
