Doctoral Degree Completion Timeline

Doctoral students have seven years from the start of their program to meet all requirements for degree conferral. Individual programs may have more restrictive timelines and processes for extension to those timelines however, individual programs may not extent beyond seven years from the start of their doctoral studies. Students who do not complete their degrees by the end of the seventh year of study will be automatically withdrawn from their doctoral degree program. No further extensions will be granted apart from a leave of absence. In rare instances, a student may be granted a leave of absence of up to one year. In such cases, the length of the leave of absence may be added to the seven-year limit with approval from the Associate Provost for Graduate Programs.
