EQR 408 Colt Starting

This advanced course provides in-depth study and application of colt starting principles, with an emphasis on the systematic development of young and green horses. Students will be able to show mastery in advanced ground training techniques, including round penning, long lining, desensitizing, and general horse handling skills. During the first half of the semester, students will apply these techniques to green, yet previously started horses. In the second half of the semester, colts will be introduced and fully started under saddle by their assigned colt starting student.

Students must be available to care for and manage their horse seven days per week. This includes getting their colt out to exercise or train a minimum of two times per day.
