ART 237 French Art History and Photography Tour

The semester begins in-seat, with an in-depth study of French art, focusing on developments in painting, photography, sculpture, and architecture.
For two weeks, overlapping with Spring Break, this course will move to Paris to visit museums, galleries and significant architectural sites. Excursion sites will include: The Musée du Louvre, The Centre Georges-Pompidou, The Maison Européenne de la Photographie, and The Musée d’Orsay, among others. Students will explore artworks from a wide range of artistic media and time-periods - from ancient sculptures in the Louvre to the latest street art.
Out in the city streets, students will document their experiences through photographs. Students will write a journal-style response paper for each excursion as well as several short reflection papers.
After the on-site French tour, students will return to campus to reflect on their experience and create a photo-based portfolio. Students will learn how to process their photos in the darkroom.
